Credit cards are a great convenience in our everyday lives, allowing us to easily buy products online and by telephone, and freeing us from having to carry large amounts of cash when making purchases in the bricks and mortar world. However, there’s a potential dark side to plastic, with some unfortunate account holders getting out of their depth and building up debts that become a problem and cause of worry.
This is obviously a situation that’s best avoided, and knowing when it’s a bad idea to use your card can help you avoid getting into difficulty.

Most cash machines these days will let you draw out cash using your credit card. This might seem an attractive option if you’re short of cash towards the end of the month, but it’s a bad idea for two reasons. Firstly, cash withdrawals will attract a fee of a small percentage of the amount you withdraw. This in itself makes it an expensive way of getting your hands on cash, but advances are also usually charged at a much higher rate of interest than purchases.

Do it Yourself Credit Repair
Author: Deanna Martin
Do you want to know if you can repair your own credit? Yes. It just takes time and effort. Think about it…you can do just about anything if you have time to learn how to do it and you put in the effort. So if you feel that you have the time and you want to put in the effort here is the way to do it.
1. Order Copies of Your Credit Reports. The starting point is to get a copy of your credit report from each of the 3 credit bureaus. The credit bureaus are Equifax, Trans Union and Experian. You can order a credit report from each bureau for free once a year through www.annualcreditreport.com.
Not all creditors and lenders report to all three of the credit bureaus. Some report only to one of the credit bureaus. So it is very likely to have different information on each of your credit reports. Obtaining all three credit reports will let you have a full view of your credit history.
2. Examine Credit Reports Very Carefully: MOST people find a lot of errors on at least one of thecredit reports. Examine carefully for mistakes such as accounts that aren’t yours, payments that have been reported incorrectly, and so on. Also make note of any public record judgments against you, past due accounts, collections and charged-off accounts.
